Answer:
If the water level is low in a toilet bowl, it can be caused by several possible reasons.
Here is a list of troubleshooting tips to look for:
- The water level inside the tank may need to be adjusted.
- Please see the solution, Adjusting Water Level for more information.
- The water level should fill to approximately 1/4"-1/2" below the top of the overflow tube.
- The fill valve may be clogged with debris and need to be flushed.
- Check out the video, How-To Clean Toilet Water Control Valve of Debris for instructions on flushing out the fill valve.
- The fill valve may be damaged and need to be replaced.
- A fill valve replacement can be viewed and purchased here.
- The fill tube needs to be correctly positioned so the water is flowing into the overflow tube.
- This overflow tube is an open pipe towards the center of the tank.
- If the toilet is also not flushing well it may be due to the bowl's rim holes being clogged.
- Use a small mirror to inspect the holes. If you notice clogged holes, pour hot vinegar down the overflow tube. Let the toilet set as long as possible, overnight if possible, and then use a piece of wire to clean out the rim holes. Flush the toilet then inspect again with a mirror.
- If the above suggestions aren't improving the issue, the low bowl water level could be caused by a crack in the bowl. If a crack is located you'll need to replace the toilet bowl.
